SmartBook is an adaptive learning tool integrated within Connect that created a personalised learning path based on a student's single strengths and weaknesses. It identifies gaps in knowledge and focuses on areas needing reinforcement, helping students to study smarter, instead of harder. SmartBook's insightful report features highlight student progress or topic areas that need more work, assisting instructors in shaping their teaching strategies

Assignable and gradable end-of-chapter content helps students learn to apply Operations Management concepts and analyse their work in order to form key business decisions. Algorithmic questions allow students to practice problems as many times as they need, to ensure that they fully understand each problem.

Algorithmic questions are auto-graded questions that allow students to practice the concept and apply theory, not just learn the numbers. Students use different numeric values each time a problem is provided which gives them the chance to practice working a problem several times – same question, but different numbers each time. This also deters cheating because each student in a class or lab receives a slightly different version of the problem and correct answer.

Examples are narrated and animated, with step-by-step walkthroughs of algorithmic versions of assigned exercises. These examples allow students to identify, review or reinforce the concepts and activities covered in classes. Availble on most Operations Management titles and providing immediate feedback provided, students can focus on the areas where they need the most guidance.

Featuring on-location video scenarios with real companies and their actual manufacturing processes. Operations Management On-Location Video Series brings topics of crucial operations management to life. All videos are matched to chapters topics within the text and are available within Connect.

Concept overview videos are assignable videos that correspond questions with crucial chapter topics. By reinforcing core learning goals, each video includes auto-graded concept-check questions that bring online courses to life. The videos are created by instructors, and are therefore unique, helping the student feel as though they are in the classroom, even if they are not.

Connect resources include a comprehensive test bank of various question types, which allow the instructor to create auto-graded assessment material with multiple problem types, algorithmic variation, and randomised question order.

Instructor Feedback on Operations Management (Paton et al)

"Having adopted the first edition, I am pleased to see that this modern, easy-to-read and well-structured text has been enhanced with even more interesting and accessible cases, bringing to the fore themes such as technology and sustainability. Highly recommended!"
Professor Torbjörn Netland, ETH Zürich, Switzerland
"As we have seen during the recent COVID-19 pandemic, operations management really matters to ensure that society continues to function. This book is a leader in the field being both clear and practical, as well as rigorous. It is a lively account, full of interesting new examples and at the same time anchored in the important business and management issues of the day."
Professor Zoe Radnor, Cass Business School, UK
"It is a pleasure to present the second edition of Operations Management by Steve Paton, Ben Clegg, Juliana Hsuan and Alan Pilkington. The new edition is clear, easy to read and has a special focus on issues of particular relevance to operations management today, such as technology and sustainability. This textbook is a perfect guide for students and a helpful support for instructors."
Professor Giovanni Perrone, University of Palermo, Italy
"The first edition of the book was part of a highly relevant and valuable online and offline package for teaching and learning about operations. The authors brought together their many years of teaching, research, and industry experience. The new edition has been improved very significantly in all aspects, incorporating the feedback the authors have received from users and other academics and industry experts. The new edition takes a decidedly international and contemporary perspective, including major changes made to chapters covering people and performance, sustainability and emerging technologies."
Professor Amrik Sohal, Monash Business School, Australia
"The second edition of this book is again an excellent contribution to the field of operations management (OM). The content is well designed and, in addition to traditional topics, covers new contemporary issues faced by OM managers such as digitalization, service operations, sustainability and managing people. Furthermore, the online materials provide extra support for students and instructors, which will be highly appreciated in this current period of increasing online learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I am happy to recommend this book!"
Professor Jose A.D. Machuca, University of Seville and International University of Andalucía, Spain
